Requirements for enrolment

You can enrol in a bachelor’s degree programme if you have completed your secondary education at the level of higher general secondary education or intermediate vocational secondary education. Each HU college will administer their entrance examinations for their study programmes. More information on these requirements can be found on the websites of the relevant programme.

Verification of identity

The first step in Studielink is the verification of your personal details. Studielink compares these details with the Gemeentelijke Basisadministratie (GBA). If this verification fails in Studielink because you do not have a Dutch residence address, or for any other reason, Studielink will notice you by e-mail. In that case, please send a copy of your passport, ID card and/or residence permit (no driving license) to the HU Enrolment Office. Please mention your name and student number on any documents you send us.
Students who are not EEA nationals will in most cases need a visa to come to the Netherlands (The European Economic Area consists of all European Union member states, plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway). In some cases, students will also need a residence permit to be allowed to study in the Netherlands. To find out how to apply in Studielink, go to Applying in Studielink. Please visit our international website www.international.hu.nl for information about the visa and residence permit procedures.

Diploma

HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht offers approximately 70 different degree courses at Bachelor’s level. You can enrol into a bachelor’s degree course if you hold at least a HAVO or MBO level 4 diploma, or a foreign diploma at least equivalent to HAVO. Bachelor’s degree courses usually take four years, but individual students may take longer. You can arrange your application for enrolment at HU and for your student grant through Studielink. To find out how to apply in Studielink, go to Applying in Studielink.

Applying without diploma
If you want to enrol into a Bachelor’s degree course at the HU University, but do not hold a diploma eligible for the degree course of your choice, you may still be admitted. To be eligible for admission, you have to take an entrance examination, the so-called colloquium doctum. Each college will administer their entrance examinations. You must be 21 or over to be eligible for the examination. You can apply for it by selecting ‘colloquium doctum’ as your previous education in Studielink. Please visit our international website (www.international.hu.nl) for information about foreign diplomas. To find out how to apply in Studielink, go to Apply for a programme.

Diploma not verified in Studielink
Do you hold a foreign diploma or a diploma that cannot be verified in Studielink? In that case we need a certified copy* of the diploma (certificate) and the list of marks of your previous education. Please send these documents through the post (not by email) to the HU Enrolment Office. Please mention your name and student number or name and date of birth on any documents you send us.

* Certification means that you take your original diploma and/or list of marks back to the relevant school of your previous education. There they will make a copy of the original and put a stamp and sign on the copy. You can also have certified copies made at HU's Student Information Desk (STIP), Padualaan 101, Utrecht (open: 9.30-16.30), www.stip.hu.nl.

Additional requirements

Several of HU’s degree programmes have additional admission requirements. You can find them in the section on the degree programme of your choice under ‘admission requirements’. Please contact the applicable college for more information.
